In this article, we introduce you the technique of various shoka styles using much loved plants“Kakitsubata”(Iris laevigata). The 3rd topic is about, Kakitsubata arranged in a “tomaribune”(boat) vase.
Tomaribune arrangements reflect the image of a boat at anchor in the night with its sail lowered. Its floral pattern should be long and thin like a mast, diminishing the movement of yakueda and reducing the ashirai branches to a minimum. Soe and tai branches should not stick out over the edge of the vase. In hongatte style, the bow of the boat should be soe side. Matagikubari (Y-shaped branch) is used for holding the stems in hanakubari method.
Kakitsuba is often arranged in the boat from spring to early summer while the leaves stretch upright with little bending or drooping. The work of the picture is arranged in springtime, with shin and soe branches in a same clump without rearranging the soft leaves. Fewer leaves are positioned to the minimum necessary.
