Description
Shoka is a style that represents the life of plants as they grow in nature. To do so we endeavor to make the plants look vibrant and lively through a touch of human artifice. In my eyes this is the same as us humans using makeup to bring out our own beauty.
This book contains 140 works of ikebana including Yin-Yang two-part arrangements from before the establishment of Shoka, Gokajyo, Shichishuden, Henkakei, Betsuden, haran (aspidistra) arrangements with from 7 to 15 leaves, and kakitsubata (iris) arrangements for each season. The different works are also displayed on two-page spreads with hongatte and gyakugatte versions on opposing pages for easy viewing in this very ambitious ikebana collection from Professor Shunso Kobayashi.
Professor Kobayashi has also included all the drawings from the Senjun Shoka-maki by the 36th Headmaster of Ikenobo, Senjun Ikenobo, along with his own commentary and explanations.
With this book you can get inspiration for your ikebana journey!
